Death Of The Server… Rise of another!

When I fired up SpotterChat in 2008 I had an idea of what I wanted it to do and how it should work.

Over the years and 2500 users later the performance became unpredictable and never really worked the way I had hoped it would (Technically Speaking, success wise it’s been GREAT!).  We tried other software but in the end it came back everyone liked the software we already had.

Back then the servers were in my basement and some equipment I had “Thrown Together” to make work.   Unfortunately today one of those servers met it’s death.
The servers are no longer in my basement and in datacenter space I lease in Kansas City… I’m not in a position to go put the paddles on the server so we are moving on.

My hope since the start of ChasersForum was to integrate the chat and forum usernames/passwords into one… it appears that is not easily possible today.

I have re-built the server however the user database is no longer compatible with the newer software.  The SpotterChat client will still work but you will have to create a new account to login.

Please CLICK THIS LINK to create a new account (or just recreate your old one) I will be getting a new and improved web client online soon!

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO USE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WE WILL HAVE A PASSWORD RECOVERY FEATURE SOON!!!

See you in the chat room!

Scott

If you use www.opendns.com and you should, you should be good to go.
If not you will need to wait for your ISP to refresh their DNS servers.

A New Look To SpotterChat.org!

First off THANKS TO EVERYONE for getting SpotterChat.org to 1000 users!

In a effort to make SpotterChat a little more generic to everyone I will be changing the name shortly to StormChat.
It’s something I have wanted to do for a long time and just been too busy with other projects.

Spotters never really took to the service and it’s just become a great place to hang out and talk about storms!
We are going to be having some impromptu events on StormChat on some significant outbreak days from years past, one recently was the OKC/Moore outbreak from May 3, 1999 where we watched Shane Adams unedited video from that day.

I would like to invite you to sign up for the new StormChat twitter account at www.twitter.com/stormchat we will be giving away a Midland weather radio later this month to the first person who responds to our tweet asking for a winner!

We will also have some more improptu video viewings and special guests, being on Twitter will get you the front seat to when to sign on!

May 3, 1999 Video From Shane Adams

We will be having a chat and watching Shane’s unedited chase video from May 3, 1999 tonight in the chat room.

If you are not a member or have lost your password simply create a new account.

The video will be hosted at http://www.passiontwist.com/stream.htm and sponsored by www.chasertv.com
